Local offline redaction software

LocalMask

AI needs context, not raw identifiers

Redact the document, keep the structure.

Import sensitive material

Drop in PDFs, Word files, Excel files (XLSX, XLS, XLSM), CSV files, screenshots, scans or pasted text without sending the originals to a web service.

Review detected entities

Inspect names, organizations, business identifiers, accounts, addresses, postal codes and visual targets before exporting a redacted copy.

Keep context for AI

Use stable aliases such as Person A and Company A so AI can reason without seeing direct identifiers.

Redaction modes

Choose the output that fits the handoff.

LocalMask can keep context with aliases, obscure only part of a value, hide it completely, or leave a blank placeholder for a cleaner document. Redaction-area colors can also be customized.

Alias replacement

Replace repeated sensitive entities with stable labels while keeping relationships readable.

Partial masking

Keep a small amount of context at the edges while masking the middle of IDs, accounts or phone numbers.

Full masking

Blank placeholder

Replace the detected content with blank space when the output should look closer to manual removal.

Acme Holdings Ltd.

Custom transformations

Dates and amounts can be changed by rule, not only hidden.

Custom date shift

Move detected dates by a consistent number of days, months or years while preserving sequence.

Why not just use a PDF editor or PII framework?

Built for document work, not just detection.

LocalMask is designed for people who need a usable redaction workspace: import, detect, review, alias, export and restore AI output from the local mapping.

Desktop workflow instead of a developer-only PII API
PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, scan and image handling instead of prompt text only
Local review and export before AI analysis or external sharing
Alias mapping stored locally for restoring AI-generated output

Frequently asked questions

Does LocalMask need an internet connection?

No. LocalMask is built for local desktop use. Document import, detection, review, redaction, export and activation run on your computer. Internet access is only needed to download the installer or purchase a license.

Can LocalMask be used on an internal network without public internet access?

Yes. LocalMask does not rely on a cloud redaction service. After installation and offline activation, it can be used on an internal network, in a no-public-internet environment or offline. Detection, review, redaction, export and alias mappings are processed on the local computer.

Will my original files be uploaded?

No. Original files, detection results, review decisions and alias mappings stay in your local workspace. LocalMask does not upload your source documents to a cloud redaction service.

Which operating systems are supported?

LocalMask supports Windows x64, macOS Apple Silicon and macOS Intel. Windows 10 64-bit or later is recommended. On macOS, use macOS 12 Monterey or later.

What file types can LocalMask handle?

LocalMask supports PDFs, Word documents (DOC and DOCX), Excel files (XLSX, XLS, XLSM), CSV files, TXT, Markdown, screenshots, scanned pages, image-based PDFs, images and clipboard text.

Can LocalMask handle password-protected PDF and Word files?

Yes. Passwords are verified and used only on the local computer. The correct password is required; LocalMask does not bypass or crack unknown passwords.

Is LocalMask suitable before using AI tools?

Yes. You can redact or replace direct identifiers locally before sending content to AI tools, cloud services, web forms or external collaborators. Stable aliases keep enough context for analysis without exposing raw identifiers.

Does it preserve document layout?

LocalMask tries to preserve the original layout when exporting redacted copies. Complex scans, unusual PDF structures and heavily formatted documents should still be reviewed before delivery.

Is the redaction just a visual overlay?

No. LocalMask focuses on content-level redaction for exported copies, processing text layers and image pixels instead of only drawing a visible box on top of the page.

Can LocalMask remove watermarks?

Yes. LocalMask can clean common watermarks, comments and annotations.

Can I restore aliases after AI output?

Yes. LocalMask can replace sensitive entities with stable aliases and keep the mapping locally, so AI-generated text containing those aliases can be restored on your computer.

Do I still need manual review?

Yes. LocalMask assists with detection and redaction, but users should review matches before export to confirm the redaction scope and final output meet their use case.

How does licensing work?

After purchase, enter the machine code shown in LocalMask. The license key is sent by email after payment confirmation and is used to activate LocalMask on the licensed device.
